I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year! My husband and I dressed up and went out for dinner and dancing. It was amazing to be able to do things (sober) that used to scare me. Now that 2017 is over, let’s start thinking about how we want to feel for 2018.

Close your eyes with me and take three deep breaths. Let yourself relax as your mind lets go of whatever it is currently holding onto. When you think you have let go enough, let go a little more. Free your mind as much as you can in this moment.
As I ask you the following question, do not strive or think too hard about the answer. Let the answer come to you. My question is, how do you want to feel in 2018?
Sit with that as you let your word, that feeling overtake your body. How does it feel to embody that word? What kind of thoughts go along with that word? What kind of actions are congruent with that word?
Your word could be anything. I do not care what it is. I just care that it is right for you. Last year, my word was joy. And this year? I have landed on badass.
Yes, badass. I can’t help it. That is my word. The word chose me. I did not choose it.
Picking a word for 2018 is all over social media, and I have had more than one yoga teacher do this exercise in my classes over the years. As my teacher listed off words this week in class: joy, peace, freedom, I thought I wonder if she would disapprove of badass? I doubt it.
I have spent most of my life afraid. This has kept me small. I need to channel my inner badass in order to expand and blossom into the woman that the world needs me to be.
“Taking a leap of faith is a win-win. Treading water in your comfort zone for the rest of your life is a snore-yawn.” Jennifer Sincero, You Are a Badass at Making Money.
So what is a badass? Above all, a badass has FAITH.
“Faith is a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets.” Jennifer Sincero
Faith is believing in what you can not see at the moment. Think a moment and ask yourself, what is one part of your life right now that could use more faith? Can you rev up your badass-ness a by showing more faith?
A badass does not worry about what she said/did. A badass takes responsibility but does not overthink. A badass really does not care what other people think.
A badass does care about other people, animals, and the environment. A badass actually stands up for these things. A badass knows she rocks and does not get freaked out by the idea that she is kind of a big deal. It is okay. She knows others are also kind of a big deal.
A badass thinks big and does not let the little things hold her back. A badass gets out of her own way. A badass has patience and faith that love conquers all. She knows deep down, even if she can not see it, that The Universe supports her every thought and desire.
A badass cares intensely and loves deeply. She has self-respect and knows when to turn off her phone. She loves the world and is able to take pleasure in it. She puts herself out there and waits patiently for the return.
She knows she is powerful beyond measure. She is not afraid to take up space, be loud, make mistakes, or even be shy or quiet. A badass stands her ground and apologizes for her mistakes.
It feels great to be a badass. And sometimes when I cannot feel that way, I think of times in my life when I was a complete badass. I channel that person.
Whatever your word is, feel it, meditate on it daily. Ask yourself what someone who feels this way does, says, thinks. Make sure your thoughts and actions are congruent with how you want to feel.
Make it a journal exercise. That is what I did above with the word badass. I wrote what badass looks like and feels like to me. Journal on your word! Comment below letting me know what your word is, or find me on Facebook or Instagram.
Above is a picture of the weekend reading I did with Gabby Bernstein’s The Universe Has Your Back Deck. Today it asks for you to see someone with the eyes of love for the first time. When you release someone from their past, you are releasing yourself from your past. It is a beautiful thing that makes everything new. Tomorrow the card is about fearless freedom. “Your fearless freedom lights up the world.” Sounds badass to me! And Sunday, again, leaning toward love will never lead you wrong.
Here’s to all your wishes, dreams, and feelings coming true in 2018!
Peace, Love, and Badass Years to all,
